I just bought a mattress–sealy plush posturepedic–and now am wondering if i should buy a cover for it or if putting sheets on it is fine. i was told by the guy at mattress firm that mattresses will last twice as long if you buy a waterproof mattress cover. is that true?

you know, if you don’t change your matress covers in intervals of two monsths, you will be basically swimming in human muck?

Well, you don’t have to change your mattress cover every 2 months. Get a good quality mattress cover and maybe wash it every 2 months. We just got a new bed and we bought the mattress cover because when you spend $1500 on the mattress, the $100 cost of a cover is a good investment. You can’t feel it or hear under the sheets and it’s doesn’t make you sweaty. Ours has a ten year warranty too.

    Go for it.

Waterproof mattress covers really just prevent stains from occurring on the mattress, so if you don’t sweat excessively or wet the bed, you really don’t need one. As for cloth mattress covers,I like them because you can take them off, wash them and put them back on the mattress and there’s a nice fresh scent.

The best way to make your mattress last is to remember to periodically flip it over. This helps prevent the breakdown of areas you usually lie on or sit.
