cat piss on a feather mattress cover?
My grandmother bought me a fairly expensive feather mattress cover. Just looks like a feather comforter but smaller, so it only covers the top of the mattress. I left it out and my cat peed all over it. Is there any way I can get the smell out of it? I don’t want to throw it away but I know cats will pee where they smell pee, and also….I don’t want my bed to stink like cat pee. Any help?

I have a flame thrower if you’re interested =)
The only thing that will get the smell out is an ammonia neutralizing cleanser. Most pet stores sell these. Be certain to test a small area first.
Is it washable? There should be a tag on it saying how to clean it. If it’s washable but too big for a top loader then take it to a laundromat that has front loaders. Or take it to a drycleaner.
Get a bottle of an enzyme cleaner, like Simple Solution or Nature’s Miracle, and take the topper to the laundrymat.
Put the topper on a counter, and saturate the area really well with the cleaner. Let it sit 5-10 minutes, then just wash it. Or do it at home, if you don’t mind carrying it in the car. You have to let the cleaner soak a while.
Wash in warm and dry, on perm. press, for at least an hour, with a pair of clean sneakers to break up the clumps of feathers. It has to be BONE dry, or you’ll have anther smell to deal with.
You may have to throw the cover, add the cost of the cover to the price of keeping animals in the home. A cat runs about $1000.00 per year to sustain. If you keep the cat in the home, then keep all the bedroom doors closed, and keep the pet off of the furniture to, as furniture is also expensive.
